Vodafone Warriors halfback Shaun Johnson was honoured with awards on both sides of the Tasman last night.
The injured 25-year-old was at SKYCITY Convention Centre to collect the Vodafone People’s Choice Player of the Year in person at the Vodafone Warriors’ 21st Annual Awards.
Soon afterwards he was named the New Zealand Representative Player of the Year at the Rugby League Players’ Association Awards in Sydney. The award took into consideration the Kiwis’ victory in the Four Nations and their Anzac Test win this year; the other finalists were Manu Vatuvei and Jason Nightingale.
In a video message Johnson said: “It’s a massive honour to receive it, with the likes of Manu (Vatuvei) and Nighty (Jason Nightingale) nominated as well and I consider myself pretty lucky to receive it.”
Vodafone Warriors hooker Siliva Havili was also honoured at the RLPA Awards where he was named co-winner of the NRL Education Award with Parramatta’s David Gower.
