Beach volleyball gave way to a full-on defensive workout in the sand for the Vodafone Warriors at the Mairangi Bay Beach Volleyball Centre on Friday.

The weeks are racing by in the countdown to a series of big dates on the field for the Vodafone Warriors.

Today they finished their first training week in 2013, a three-day slog highlighted by a no-holds-barred tackling and wrestling session in the sand at the Mairangi Bay Beach Volleyball Centre on Friday.

Local fans who had gathered were in awe as the players flew into each other working at three different stations at the complex. Earlier the players had a skills session on the adjacent field at Mairangi Bay Park before finishing with a swim at the nearby beach.
