Phenomenal interest has forced the Vodafone Warriors to close off registrations for the club’s first-ever all-girls school holidays footy clinic at Mount Smart Stadium next month.
It was initially expected the October 3 clinic would cater for up to 50 girls from the age of 5-13 but the club has upgraded its plans markedly after being swamped with registrations for the Harvey Norman Community Warriors-organised clinic.
“The reaction to the clinic has been absolutely amazing,” said Vodafone Warriors community relations manager Petrece Kesha.
“Off the back of the Women in League Round and fielding our women’s team, the call for registrations went through the roof, so much so we’ve more than doubled the size of the clinic to 120 girls. We could have gone for even more but we’ve had to set a limit.”
Kesha said as a result of the level of interest shown, the club now planned to run clinics outside Auckland.
The October 3 clinic will be jointly-run by Harvey Norman Community Warriors and members of the club’s trailblazing women’s side, which started the inaugural NRL premiership campaign with a 10-4 win over the Sydney Roosters on Saturday.
The clinic will run from 9.00am-3.00pm featuring skills and drills, games, a tour of the Vodafone Warriors’ facilities, giveaways and interaction with Warriors women’s team members.
