More than 150 fans from the Helensville area will be beneficiaries today of the Vodafone Warriors’ Gift of Footy initiative created in association with our charity partner KidsCan.
The club believes everyone should have the chance to come to the footy, regardless of their financial situation; we know that for some families, no matter how passionate they are about rugby league, it can be a stretch too far.
So, with KidsCan the Gift of Footy programme was created for today’s Michael Moore Trophy NRL clash against the Melbourne Storm at Mount Smart Stadium (5.00pm kick-off).
It’s a low-cost bundle containing one adult and one child’s GA ticket – but with a very special touch.
The ticket package wasn’t for the purchasers. Instead, the Vodafone Warriors took the double passes bought and KidsCan helped us to find families in need to donate to them thanks to our generous fans. A classic case of good rugby league people paying it forward to people who wouldn’t normally be able to afford a day at the footy.
Vodafone Warriors community relations coordinator Georgia Hale delivered the passes to Parakai School – a KidsCan school – yesterday ensuring more than 150 fans from the area will be able to take in the game day atmosphere at Mount Smart Stadium today. And it’s all thanks to the Gift of Footy.
The Vodafone Warriors and KidsCan wish to thank the public who bought the Gift of Footy passes so those in need could experience the joy of footy.
About KidsCan
KidsCan provides Kiwi kids in need with food, clothing and health items at school, so they can get into the classroom in a position to learn.
We’ve been aligned with KidsCan for a long time and every year our players go out to low decile schools to give pupils Vodafone Warriors-branded raincoats.
More about the Gift of Footy
It costs a lot of money to put on a game day at Mt Smart Stadium. We’re on the hook for everything from stadium rental to costs for security and traffic management.
Even so, we want to make sure we are chipping in, too. So, we reduced the price of the Gift of Footy ticket package considerably. Normally, it can cost up to $40 for an adult and child to attend our games if they purchase GA tickets at the gate.
The Gift of Footy is definitely not about the money. It’s about impact and making a difference. Finally, we also feel getting our fans and partners to help us with this will have so much more impact. Together, we can achieve great things.
