St George Illawarra has been confirmed as the Warriors’ opposition for the historic standalone NRLW match at Mount Smart Stadium on Sunday, September 22 (3.15pm kick-off).
The 2019 NRLW draw was announced tonight in conjunction with the NRL’s finals programme.
In a repeat of the inaugural premiership’s schedule last year, the Warriors will open their campaign against the Sydney Roosters. The match is set down for AAMI Park ahead of the Melbourne v Canberra NRL week one finals match next Saturday, September 14 (3.05pm kick-off local time; 5.05pm NZT).
After playing the Dragons in Auckland in week two, the Warriors travel across the Tasman to face the Brisbane Broncos in the third round (venue to be confirmed) on Saturday, September 28 (5.05pm kick-off local time; 7.05pm NZT).
NRL general manager of the women’s elite programme Tiffany Slater said the combination of new venues and standalone matches made for a brilliant second season of the NRLW.
“It’s wonderful to see matches being played in new markets as we continue to expand the footprint and number of females supporting, playing and watching rugby league,” she said.
“The standalone fixtures at both Mount Smart in Auckland and Leichhardt Oval in Sydney are a natural evolution for the growth of the game and ensure the game’s very best women and their fans are given their own platform to showcase their talents.”
