Tenterfield mayor Peter Petty and Vodafone Warriors CEO Cameron George have this week cemented the relationship between the stricken New South Wales town and the club.

It followed the announcement early last month that the Vodafone Warriors had adopted Tentertfield this year, outlining a range of initiatives and activities designed to try to lift spirits in the region.

Mayor Petty and Tenterfield Shire Council’s tourism and marketing manager Caitlin Reid were in Auckland on Monday to meet the NRL squad, watch the team train and make a presentation about the community’s dire predicament to the club’s players, football staff and commercial staff.

A video provided alarming evidence of the plight Tenterfield and its people have faced from a three-year drought as well as bushfires.

Petty said the Tenterfield Shire Council and the community at large was overwhelmed by the Vodafone Warriors reaching out to help.

“The whole area has been in an ongoing drought for the last two to three years now but it has really bit hard in the past 12 months – and then we’ve had 12 months of bushfires as well,” he said.

“It’s been really, really tough but this connection with the Warriors has just lifted the spirits of everyone in the community. We’re really looking forward to our association over the next 12 months.”

After the presentation, Vodafone Warriors halfback Blake Green presented Petty with a signed Vodafone Warriors jersey.
