Canterbury Cup trial in Papakura

A mix of players from the Vodafone Warriors’ wider NRL training squad, promising young prospects and local footballers will be on show in the club’s Canterbury Cup trial against the Counties Manukau Stingrays at Massey Park in Papakura on Sunday (12.00pm kick-off).

Adam Keighran, who made his NRL debut last year, headlines a cast of players which also includes four players on development contracts – middle forward Tom Ale, wingers Selestino Ravutaumada and Israel Ogden and utility forward Tyler Slade.

All four were used in last Saturday’s NRL trial against Melbourne in Palmerston North.

Isaiah Vagana, King Vuniyayawa, Preston Riki, Setu Tu and Temple Kalepo also back up after playing in the Palmerston North trial.

Almost all the players selected in the Justin Morgan-coached squad played for the Vodafone Warriors at either Canterbury Cup or Jersey Flegg level last year, or both in many cases.

The Vodafone Warriors are away to the Newcastle Knights in the opening round of the Canterbury Cup on Saturday, March 14.
