After being without a naming rights sponsor since 2006, Mount Smart Stadium has today been officially renamed Go Media Stadium Mt Smart.
The ground that has been the One New Zealand Warriors’ home since the club’s inception was known as Ericsson Stadium from 1995-2006 when the naming rights partnership lapsed.
Today Auckland Stadiums announced outdoor advertising company Go Media had secured the rights for one year initially with the two parties working on a multi-year partnership.
The new name Go Media Stadium Mt Smart was officially launched with a blessing and ribbon cutting today cementing what Auckland Stadiums and Go Media already see as a strong relationship.
“It was important for us to find a partner that complements and enhances what we do at the stadium, as well as being able to add value to the community, our whole organisation and the sports, events and entertainment teams who rely on us as host and as a world-class venue,” said Tātaki Auckland Unlimited Stadiums director James Parkinson
The name change does not affect the legal name of the site, Mt Smart (Rarotonga) Domain.
The One New Zealand Warriors have played at Go Media Stadium Mt Smart every season except the two total Covid lockouts in 2020 and 2021 when they were forced to play all their games in Australia. In all they have had 294 matches at the stadium.
The One New Zealand Warriors' first home game at the newly-named Go Media Stadium is against competition newcomers the Dolphins on June 3.
