This week’s return home for the first time in a month signals a run of fixtures on home soil as the One New Zealand Warriors head into the business end of the New South Wales Cup's competition.
The Slade Griffin-coached side faces St George Illawarra at Go Media Stadium Mt Smart on Saturday (12.00pm kick-off), the first of six matches they’ll play in New Zealand in their last nine games of the regular season.
Sitting fifth on the ladder after eight wins, a draw and six losses in their first 15 matches, they’re back at Go Media Stadium to take on the Rabbitohs on June 30 followed by three more encounters in Auckland against Newtown (July 16), Canberra (July 21) and the Sea Eagles (August 18) while they face the Magpies in Hamilton on August 12.
Their only matches in Sydney are against Parramatta (July 8), Penrith (August 5) and the Dragons (August 26).
On Saturday they meet a St George Illawarra side occupying ninth spot on the ladder on 15 points. They've won four of their last six including a 46-4 trouncing of the Magpies last week while the Warriors have had a win, a draw and four defeats in their last six starts.
NRL winger Edward Kosi and seasoned prop Patrick Vaivai provide a boost returning after long lay-offs but the Warriors will be without a number of other key players including fullback Taine Tuaupiki, NRL rookie centre Ali Leiataua, front rower James Gavet, exciting young back rowers Leka Halasima and Demitric Sifakula and hooker Paul Roache.
With injuries, suspensions and NRL requirements biting into resources, the Warriors have so far used 34 players this season. Not one player has appeared in all 15 games, the closest being props Zyon Maiu'u and Isaiah Vagana plus back rower Kalani Going and winger Moala Graham-Taufa who have 14 appearances.
