Key forwards Mitchell Barnett and Jazz Tevaga are both making progress as they strive to be available for the One New Zealand Warriors’ return to finals football.
Prop-second rower Barnett missed last Friday’s clash against Manly Warringah last Friday and is out again for the encounter with the Dragons this week as he recovers from a knee laceration suffered in the win over the Wests Tigers in Hamilton on August 12.
He has been forced to limit his range in movement to enable the wound to heal leaving him unable to complete enough running and team training sessions leading into the round 26 match against St George Illawarra. He will build into full team training next week.
Tevaga picked up a low-grade high hamstring strain making a tackle at a training session last week. He is building strength and working his way through rehab running progressions before returning to team training soon.
In another positive development 2023 first-grade debutant centre Ali Leiataua has recovered from his hamstring injury and has returned to full training while standoff Te Maire Martin (fibula) and centre Brayden Wiliame (calf) make their comebacks this weekend.
However, there has been some devastating injury news for rookie NRL back rower Demitric Sifakula.
He suffered an ACL injury making a tackle in the One New Zealand Warriors’ New South Wales Cup win over Western Suburbs in Hamilton on August 12.
He had surgery this week and is now in the acute management phase as he begins his long recovery journey.
