NSW Cup Team List: Maiu'u makes return

Front rower Zyon Maiu’u is a big inclusion in the One New Zealand Warriors’ lineup for their third-round New South Wales Cup encounter with the ladder-topping Raiders at Canberra’s original home ground Seiffert Oval on Saturday (4.00pm kick-off NZT).

The 20-year-old returns from a two-match suspension after being ordered off for a high tackle in the One New Zealand Warriors’ Preseason Challenge match against the Wests Tigers in Christchurch on February 18.

While still eligible for the SG Ball Cup last year, he was promoted to develop in the New South Wales Cup where he distinguished himself by playing in every one of the Warriors’ 27 matches as they went within one win of making the grand final.

He comes back into the side as a challenging time.

The Warriors opened their campaign with a last-gasp 28-24 win over Newtown in the first round but had a disappointing day out when North Sydney beat them 38-18 in Pukekohe last Sunday.

Head coach David Tangata-Toa has named a squad showing some changes.

Apart from Maiu'u coming in, winger Setu Tu has been moved to fullback, Moala Graham-Taufa, used in the centres against the Jets and the Bears, is switched to the wing and Ali Leiataua comes into the centres alongside Adam Pompey.

Ben Farr was named at fullback last week but was then moved to the halves where he has been named again this week with Geronimo Doyle, the starting fullback on Sunday, also listed in the halves to face the Raiders.

The match will provide a searching test for the One New Zealand Warriors.

In their first two matches the Raiders had big wins over the Knights 38-22 and Western Suburbs 50-12.
