After two close-run defeats in their last two outings, the One New Zealand Warriors will continue their quest for further improvement in their round seven Jersey Flegg Cup (under-21) match against St George Illawarra at Collegians Sporting Complex in Wollongong on Saturday (11.15am kick-off local time; 1.15pm NZT).
Coming into the competition this season has been a tough baptism but the Warriors have made significant inroads since the opening three rounds.
Against both Newcastle and Manly Warringah they were in with every chance of picking up their first win of the campaign, particularly last Saturday when they had cut the margin back to 16-18 with plenty of time to play.
Now they’re back over the Tasman for a testing mission against the Dragons who have a 4-2 record after six games, although they went down 22-31 to Wests Tigers last week.

With injuries hitting the club’s NRL stocks hard, the trickle-down effect means the Jersey Flegg side is without frontline forwards Harry Durbin and Toby Crosby, both playing up a grade with the New South Wales Cup side this week.
Almost all the players named for Saturday's match in Wollongong have played SG Ball Cup football for the One New Zealand Warriors in either 2023 or 2024.
One of the standouts is centre Sio Kali, who started the season playing for the SG Ball side and scored a try in his only appearance (after four tries in four games last season) but has since been used at both New South Wales Cup and Jersey Flegg Cup level.
In his only NSW Cup game so far he marked his debut in a 20-26 loss to South Sydney with a brilliant try, 131 metres from 12 runs, a line break, a try assist, a line break assist, four tackle breaks and seven tackles without a miss.
He featured in the last two narrow Jersey Flegg defeats scoring the Warriors’ two tries in their 8-18 loss to Newcastle and then another superb effort in the 16-20 reverse against Manly last week.
