Eyeing extraordinary sellout grand slam

After announcing early sell outs for their next two home games against Melbourne and Brisbane, the One New Zealand Warriors are eyeing a grand slam of sold-out home games in a season for what is thought to be a first for any NRL club.

Following on from eight home games selling out last season, the Warriors have set a new benchmark by selling all tickets for each of their first nine NRL home games this year with just three to follow against Wests Tigers (July 26), Parramatta (August 2) and Canterbury Bankstown (August 23).

With sell outs for their two trials in February as well, it leaves them on track to deliver a perfect return of 14 sold out home games for the year.

“It’s absolutely brilliant seeing the way members and fans have got behind their club,” said One New Zealand Warriors CEO Cameron George.

“They were phenomenal with their support last season but they’ve taken it to another level this year.

To sell out the Melbourne game almost three weeks ahead of game day and the Broncos almost five weeks out is unbelievable.

“We now have tickets available for just our last three home games of the regular season so we’d certainly encourage supporters to secure their seats in plenty of time.

“If we can sell out those games as well it will be an amazing achievement and another statement about what the club and rugby league mean to New Zealanders. Let’s get it done.”

With all tickets gone for next month’s matches against Melbourne and Brisbane it means the One New Zealand Warriors have sold out 17 of their 22 NRL home games since the start of the 2023 season; it includes home games played at Sky Stadium (Wellington), Suncorp Stadium (Brisbane), McLean Park (Napier) and Apollo Projects Stadium (Christchurch).

Stretching back to their last three matches against Manly Warringah, St George Illawarra and Newcastle in 2023, the Warriors have now sold out 14 consecutive home games.

Not even in the inaugural 1995 season did the Auckland Warriors sell out every game. The capacity at the then-named Ericsson Stadium was a little more than 30,000 but one match had a crowd of 19,244 while two other games had attendances of 20,493 and 21,466.

In 10 matches at Go Media Stadium last year, the crowd average was 22,739 with a biggest crowd of 26,083 for the home final against the Knights.

The crowd average for five matches at Go Media Stadium so far this season is up to 23,658.
