Jersey Flegg Team List: Focus on development

Forwards Kayliss Fatialofa, Toby Crosby and Rodney Tuipulotu-Vea are back to bolster the One New Zealand Warriors for their 17th-round Jersey Flegg Cup (under-21) clash against the powerful Canberra side at Go Media Stadium on Saturday (12.45pm kick-off).

Fatialofa and Tuipulotu-Vea have had exposure at New South Wales Cup level recently while Crosby – who has also had a taste of reserve grade – has been unavailable for the last two matches against the Wests Tigers and St George Illawarra.

Also returning to the Flegg side is centre Nganatatafu Vake after making his NSW Cup debut in the Warriors’ 18-4 win over the Dragons last Saturday.

Missing this week is regular winger Garry Tuilekutu who has been a prolific try scorer for the Warriors this season.

The clash with the Raiders will provide another huge challenge for the Warriors on the back of last Saturday's heavy loss to the Dragons.

Canberra handed the Warriors a 44-12 defeat when the sides met in Queanbeyan in the third round in April, one of 12 wins in 15 starts which have the Raiders leading the competition; they’ve won their last four matches on end.

While Fatialofa, Crosby, Tuipulotu-Vea and Vake will provide a boost, the Warriors still have a young combination as the club continues to bring through players from the SG Ball Cup (under-19) squad to benefit their development at a higher level.

In fact, only four players named in the squad on Tuesday were ineligible for the SG Ball side this year – halfback Cassius Cowley (21) plus second rower Siale Faeamani, Crosby and 18th man Ben Peni, who are all 20. As many as eight of the squad are only 18.
