NSW Cup Team List: Third v fourth encounter

It’s third against fourth when the One New Zealand Warriors face Canterbury Bankstown in Saturday’s 18th-round New South Wales Cup match at Accor Stadium in Sydney (12.40pm kick-off local time; 2.40pm NZT).

With their solid 24-18 win over the second-placed Raiders, the Warriors improved from fifth to third on the ladder after the Newtown Jets and the Bulldogs both lost.

In their last start, the Bulldogs lost 10-18 to competition-leading North Sydney but they have a squad showing significant NRL experience in their pack with middle forward Ryan Sutton boasting 88 first grade appearances, second rower Liam Knight 83, hooker Jake Turpin 79 and prop Poasa Faamausili 47.

There are two former Warriors in Faamausili – a loan player during the Covid days – and centre Hayze Perham.

The Warriors have been boosted by the return of exciting centre Al Leiataua, who picked up an ankle injury in his second NRL appearance – a try-scoring one – against Penrith in the Magic Round in May.

Last updated:

If last week’s encounter was an ideal test of the Warriors’ progress in 2024 then so is this contest.

Despite dealing with major lineup changes, the Warriors have put together an outstanding run of results with eight wins - the last four on end - a draw and just one defeat since April 20.

Even though they had to play the last 14 minutes with only 11 players against Canberra, they fought resolutely to keep the visitors out until the final seconds of the match.

Their encounter tomorrow is one of three on an all-Warriors v Bulldogs day in Sydney with the clubs also clashing in the Jersey Flegg Cup – at Belmore Sports Ground – and in the NRL.
