NSW Cup Team List: Metcalf makes long-awaited comeback

Standoff Luke Metcalf makes a long-awaited comeback from a four-month injury layoff in the One New Zealand Warriors’ 22nd-round New South Wales Cup clash against Parramatta at Go Media Stadium on Friday night (5.15pm kick-off).

The 25-year-old has been out of action since March 31 after having the tibia in his right leg broken in the opening minutes of the fourth-round NRL clash against the Knights at Go Media Stadium.

It happened in a tackle by Knights second rower Tyson Frizell, bringing an abrupt half to a season which had begun so well for Metcalf.

After earning the #6 jersey for the opening of the campaign, he scored two tries in the first three rounds.

On Friday night he combines with 20-year-old halfback Luke Hanson as the Warriors chase a rebound win after their disappointing loss to bottom-placed Western Suburbs last Friday night.

Last updated:

Returning to the NSW Cup side at fullback is Taine Tuaupiki while winger Edward Kosi is also back after his try-scoring appearance in the Warriors’ NRL victory over Wests Tigers last week.

The pack is again led by 138-game NRL prop Bunty Afoa while hooker Paul Roache, second rowers Jacob Laban and Demitric Sifakula, loose forward Kalani Going and interchange prop Zyon Maiu’u have all tasted first-grade football.

Last week’s loss to the Magpies saw the Warriors slip from third to fifth on the ladder.

Parramatta is ninth following three straight losses including the dramatic 28-46 defeat by the Warriors three weeks ago.
