One New Zealand Warriors winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak has edged another step closer to reaching twin try-scoring milestones.
The 28-year-old’s try in Friday night’s 20-30 loss to Parramatta was his 11th in 18 matches this season lifting him within three of joining the NRL’s 100-try club and two of bringing up 50 tries for the Warriors.
He’s in line to become just the sixth New Zealander to achieve 100 tries after former Warriors Manu Vatuvei (152) and Nigel Vagana (140), Shaun Kenny-Dowall (139), Jordan Rapana (111) and Jason Nightingale (110).
With two more tries he will be the 10th player to make it to 50 tries for the Warriors.
The others are Vatuvei, Shaun Johnson (78), Stacey Jones (77), Simon Mannering (63), David Fusitu’a (61), Francis Meli (60), Lance Hohaia (57), Clinton Toopi (57), and Jerome Ropati (54).
Watene-Zelezniak’s 97 career tries have come in 208 matches including 41 in 106 games for Penrith and eight in 37 for Canterbury Bankstown.
Since his move to the Warriors he has been in career-best try-scoring form with 48 in 65 appearances including a club record 24 in 20 games last year.
He’s in line to be the fastest to reach 50 tries for the club. David Fusitu’a holds that record achieving his 50 in 77 matches.
