Funding from Tū Manawa Aktive Aotearoa through Aktive has provided an invaluable boost for the Warriors Community Foundation to support the continued delivery and expansion of Tupu Māia, a wellbeing and empowerment programme designed specifically for intermediate-aged girls.
Aktive’s backing will enable the foundation to reach even more schools across Tāmaki Makaurau.
Underpinned by Te Whare Tapa Whā, Tupu Māia fosters confidence, self-esteem and a love of sport and movement, encouraging girls to remain active and engaged with their peers.
The programme’s holistic approach embraces the four pillars of wellbeing – taha tinana (physical), taha hinengaro (mental and emotional), taha wairua (spiritual) and taha whānau (family and social) – to create a balanced and supportive environment that promotes resilience and positive self-identity.
"We are incredibly grateful for Aktive’s support and this Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa funding," said Warriors Community Foundation tumuaki (CEO) of Lincoln Jefferson.
"With this funding, we can expand Tupu Māia to more schools across Tāmaki Makaurau and continue to support the wellbeing of our young wāhine. This programme is about creating confident, resilient young leaders who are equipped to thrive and succeed both in and outside of the classroom."
The programme includes sessions led by community activators who guide the girls through a series of activities that focus on mental, physical and emotional wellbeing and fostering a sense of community.
Tupu Māia is aligned with the Warriors Community Foundation’s commitment to tackling social issues through community-based initiatives that build mental health awareness, resilience and essential life skills.
"Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa funding represents a significant opportunity for community organisations like the Warriors Community Foundation to have a positive impact on the wellbeing of tamariki and rangatahi by providing quality sport and physical activity opportunities," said Aktive chief executive Jennah Wootten.
"We are delighted to support the Warriors Community Foundation and acknowledge the positive difference their mahi makes for young people."
The Warriors Community Foundation is the official charitable arm of the One New Zealand Warriors, dedicated to creating positive social change through programmes and initiatives that support children and families across Aotearoa.
The Tupu Māia programme is a shining example of this mission in action, supporting a healthier, more confident future for young girls across Tāmaki Makaurau.
